This is for Saturday May 4, 2013. The Bass are starting to bite well on Spinnerbaits and small crank baits. I caught a 33\" Musky on the Saturday above and a 34\" Musky the Saturday prior on a bass crank bait. This is the 1st time of many years of fishing this lake that I have caught musky (Pleasant supprise). With the abundance of rain we\'ve reveived over the past few days; The Army Corps of Engineers reported yesterday (5-8-2013) that the lake is closed and muddy. Their web site shows the lake 17.58 feet above summer pool.

WVDNR Report: Fishing on the lake is fair, but cold weather has curtailed fishing somewhat. Stripers and hybrids have been seen schooling and chasing shad occasionally still around the pit area. Try shad like lures and surface lures to garner strikes when they appear at the surface. No recent reports from catfish anglers. A new boat launch was recently completed at ‘the Pit’. The old launch was becoming silted in and will be off limits during the construction of the new bridge over the Bluestone arm of the lake. For more information call Corps of Engineers at 304-466-0156. Be aware that in the future, the access at the Pit will be reduced due to the construction on the Bluestone arm bridge. Construction equipment and trucks will be on the site, be safe and be aware of your surroundings while using the Pit area to prevent any accidents. Once the construction begins, inconveniences to anglers and users of the Pit area will be reduced as much as possible as problems are sorted out over time. The construction will last through 2016. Please be careful as mentioned, be prepared to possibly wait a little longer to launch and pick-up your boat, and be sure to be courteous of others. Please bear with State Park personnel until issues can be worked out as they develop.

The tailwaters are 36 degrees. Today on the WVDNR Website: The lake is at winter pool and clear. Fishing is difficult because of ice. Be cautious of areas of ice to start forming, which may make boat launching difficult or impossible. Bass are being caught in 10 to 15 feet of water. For walleye try rocky points, drop offs and at the mouth of small tributaries entering the lake (A few have been caught as deep as 50 feet). The tailwaters were stocked with trout on February 11.

For Friday 5-27-2011: The Water Temp was 70 close to the dam and 67 to 69 from the rough water to the boat launch. The bass were about as predictable as the rain...on, off, on, off. One minute the rain would stop and the bass would hit crank baits, the rain would start the fish would stop biting. Then the rain would stop and the bass would hit jerk baits, but wouldn touch a crank bait. Normally at Bluestone, right before dark, the fish bass would feed hard then cut off at dark...not Friday...The rain had stopped, but the fish didn't feed like they normally do. Blame it on the weather I guess.

Water Temperature was warmer towards the dam. Only caught 1 smallmouth a little over 2 lbs near the dam on a spinner bait. Others were catching smaller fish jigging either soft plastics or jigs up towards the camp grounds in shallow water near the bank. The cold finally got the best of me and I left around 3:30pm.

Went fishing for whatever we could catch over the weekend. Managed to catch a few crappie 8 to 14 feet down on jigs and minnows. Saw some fish running tiny shad on the surface. Throwed at them with no takers. I believe they were smallmouth.
