November 29th, 2018 - Falls Lake

In response to previous post:::::: When a lake has more fisherman than fish, decline is to be expected, with the lake being pounded year round by all the thousands of people moving into the area with there jet skis, wake boats, ski boats, bow riders and now off shore ocean going boats, unfortunately it getting pretty bad on Falls lake and all the Raleigh area lakes. There is no management or stocking of the lake, No aquatic vegetation, water quality is piss poor with raw sewage from Durham being dumped in and high bacteria levels, shore line being eroded away from jet skis, wake boats, ski boats, bow riders and now off shore ocean going boats is a combination for disaster not to mention the hundreds of tournaments every year that kill 60 percent of the bass and most of them are larger fish and it's non stop, year round, year after year. If the Fish & Wildlife people don't get a grip on this, the Lake is Doomed. Welcome to Raleigh !

Since the lake has come up 9 feet in early November 2018 the fishing has slowed way down, no where as good as it was this time last year. The water is dirty, cold & high and it's extremely hard to find feeding bass or anything for that matter. I managed to boat 10 keepers on 11/27/2018 but nothing to brag about, best fish was about 3 1/2 lbs. I personally think the lake is on a major downward cycle, for what ever reason I'm not sure but I do know that it's no where near as good as it was in the years 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014. If you can find them you can catch quantity but the quality has dropped significantly. 3 lb plus fish are extremely hard to come by anymore when I used to catch 20 of them a day. Good Luck !!!!!!!!!!

Belews is deep clear and great in winter when the sky's are grey and the temps is low. Unloaded the boat today at 10 temp was 24 and the shad were bunched up at boat ramp. One cast of thr net and put 100 or more shad in the live well. Headed to the hot hole and coughs fish on nearly every cast. Nearly froze my hands off but what a great day..
