I have been having just a little bit of luck using good ol' power bait. Two Taggers so far this year. I am going this morning to try again. You can't give up on Topaz. Plus, even a bad day fishing beats work any day!!!!!
Species: Smallmouth Bass
Fishing Rating: 1
Water Temperature:
Only a few are caught each year and by only those that know what the are doing. Buzz
Species: Trout
Fishing Rating: 1
Water Temperature:
This lake is currently over fed and only a few are being caught. Many out-of-town trollers enter the space of shore fisherman. Not advisable. If you want 12 to 14 inch trout...they are there...just like any other place. Once in a while a few 2+ pounders are caught and recently a lone 9 pounder was caught and claimed to have been caught here. If you use only worms one might catch a 20+ pond carp. Great to chop up and put in your garden for next years corn. Keep an eye out for Bald Eagles if you have a small dog on the beach this time of year. Power type baits work but the favorite color(s) change every couple of weeks. Buzz

Topaz Lake Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Bass? REALLY? Fished for 6 hours, caught one puny trout. Even the guys trolling couldn't catch anything. Disappointing.
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Topaz Lake at 46 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 46 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.

- I'm a local and do not know of anyone that's ever caught a crappie here. Try Clear
Lake of Lake Herman in Cali.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the Water Temperature at 46 Prime Crappie fishing is in full swing. Crappies should be migrating to their spawning areas now. They?ll either be up in the final spawning area now or at tributary entrances. Concentrate around 15 feet of water. Fish Primary points at the mouth of the creek arms. Fish Targets at this point instead of focusing on bait fish. Fish trees, shrubs, vegetation, etc. Fishing correctly this time of year will get you snagged quite a bit since you need to focus on making and keeping contact with the cover.

- Nightcrawlers are getting the cats good on the east side by the willows.
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

- 3-11-12/Trout fishing with bait is slow. A few stragglers of around 2 lbs. have
been caught but even the 12-14 inchers are slow. High winds are making the water
a bit murkey but last year at this time under same conditions fishing was good.
Bright nite moon and lots of feed are making things tough. Spinners from the
bank don't seem to be doing too well either. All we can do is wait it out.

If one is lucky to catch a NV Fish & Game tagged fish...take it to Topaz Joe's
Bar on 208 (TRE) before the third Sat., of the Month. Word has it they will give
you a beer and put your name in on a drawing plus give NVFG your tag info for
their tracking stats. that's kinda cool.

Bring a camera if anything...the bald eagles are up and soaring over the lake.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
