The lake was covered with a fog yesterday (10/3/12) and was dead calm for most of the morning. The silence on the water was deafening. I fished the Tohican area for 2 hours without a bite. Moved to near the Marina where I obeserved the Fish & Game Dept. in the process of stocking a few hundred 8\"-12\" fish dispersed into deeper water areas of the lake. After another 2 hours of fishing I only had one small bass that hit a 4\" senko. By that point it had become so hot and humid, even with the light drizzle that fell, I decided to call it a day. In all of that time, I only observed 3 splashes on the surface. It seemed like the lake was dead.

8lb 4oz smallmouth? that is a new state record..Previous record was 8lbs from Lake Erie.
Species: Largemouth Bass

Water Temperature:
Fishing in this lake is very tricky. Some days the fish will be active, and some days the bite will be completely dead. The bass seem to like smoke pearl blue color 4 inch senkos, but you have to use weedless hooks. Every once in a while you\'ll get a hit from a muskie or a pickerel, but not often. As I said before, it can be very tricky in this lake, and although most of the time when you do catch fish they\'re at least 3 pounds, there are days when you catch maybe 6 bass under 6 inches. Overall, it\'s a tough lake, but when you do get fish, they\'re usually good size.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
68 degrees in in the largemouth bass prime water temperature range and fishing should be good right now. Baitfish are much more active in this water temperature and the largemouth bass will be feeding aggressively throughout the day. This is a great time of year to be on the water.

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Summer Fishing Tip provided by Guide Chatt Martin: Same requirements as spring, but deeper. For beginners, rivers and creeks are the best because "deep" is relative. In a creek, a crappie's summer spot might only be 5 feet from their springtime spot, because there isn't as much deep water to begin with, so bank bound anglers can usually catch crappies in basically the same places they caught them in the spring. In lakes, summer usually means having a fishfinder, or sonar unit, and looking for those "sticking up things" in deeper water. However, there are a couple ways to find those spots even if you don't have a fishfinder. One is a Kentucky rig, which is a live bait rig with a very heavy weight on the bottom that will allow you to feel it when you drag it through a brushpile. The other is, plant your own brushpiles so you'll know where they are. Still, in the summer, a beginners best bet is a shallow creek or river with good bank access.

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
This is the water temperature of choice for walleye. They are feeding well and moving in patterns that should be fairly easy to pick up and capitalize on today. Baitfish are not at the peak of activity but they will be in good supply in the deeper water. The lake is really turning on this time of year and the fish should be biting well.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The full moon has just past. The gravitational pull is starting to decrease with the moon and sun being on opposite sides of the planet. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. It's always fun trying something new at the peak times to change things up a bit and test out the Lunar Theory each time you hit the water in close to full and full moon situations. Good luck you there.
