Crappie will be coming off of the spawn now. Fish will be feeding much more aggressively making up for lost time eating during the spawn. Crappie will start moving back to their typical structure of choice and should be getting into schools again in the old river channels. It?s time to hit the water. Have fun today!

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions:
The water temperature is climbing and the catfish will start becoming more active now. The catfish spawn is right around the corner and generally all catfish species will be looking to spawn. Blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish spawn in much the same areas. Mostly spawning in deep tree lay downs that have lots of shade, holes in the bank, sunken barrels and tires. With baitfish becoming active, it?s time to catch some small sunfish, bluegill, shad and frogs and getting the line in the water.

The landlocked Steel Head are on the move to the dam area. Last week they were up around the no ski bouys and being caught between 20\' and 40\'. An Uncle Larry\'s with a mini-night crawler trolled at 1 mph was the hot ticket. The best action was on 4 colors of 18 lb lead core with a 16\' leader and a orange, green and black spotted uncle larrry. Next Sunday I\'m going to troll a 1\" Silver Apex which worked well in the past trolled between 1.8 and 2 mph. For you new commers to Lake Sonoma, there are no natural rainbow trout in the lake. What look like rainbows are hold over Steelhead that weren\'t expect to survive. Because people mistake them for rainbows they often take a limit of 5. The limit is two. If you count the rays on the anal fin you\'ll see 13 or more rays and the spots on the fish will be black. The younger fish will be chrome in color while the 12\" or better fish will look a lot like a rainbow except the heads will be more metalic looking. The adipose fin on these fish is still present which means they are natural fish. Please catch, photograph and release so we can restore this fish fully to this lake. If you decide to keep them just remember the limit is 2. We all know DFG doesn\'t have a big presence at the lake but guys like me that care, will take down our license number and report you. You will loose if you abuse.

Tory C and Kevin K. This year Early Aug cought over 20 inchers on flashers 60 to 90 feet. Through back the small ones and let them get big. Remember lake is still young, and there landlock steelheaed from holdovers from the steelhead run. Not really trout.

Lake Sonoma Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
