Pomona Lake is an 4,000-acre lake that provides a variety of fishing opportunities for any angler. This primarily includes crappie, and channel catfish. Improvements have been made in the last five years to improve the habitat structure for the fish populations. Pomona Lake is an 4,000 acre on-stream impoundment built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Fishing for crappie is very popular on Pomona Lake. These fish are most vulnerable in the spring. Crappie become shore-bound by lake April and fishing becomes hot and heavy by May. Spring fishing methods differ from summer because the crappie are spawning near shore among submerged brush and rocks. Jigs may also be fished with white or red twister tail grubs. Pomona Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.

The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. - The males are moving into redhorse below the bridge. Mostly small but a few to 16 -18 inches. White safety spinners and jigs took them on the 14th. The majority of fish were down stream 300 yards or so and taken in the riffles. Beautiful weather that we have been having will get the females moving closer.

Pomona Lake Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
New Moon fishing can be at its best. The gravitational pull on the earth is at its peak when the moon and sun are rising and setting at the same time of day. This combination can generate extraordinary fishing opportunities especially if combined with perfect weather variances. The new moon may have the fish extremely aggressive and actively hunting for food. Try fishing a little faster today and with several different baits and techniques. When fish are more aggressive, its always fun to fish a little more aggressive. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today?s solar/lunar peaks. Have a great day!
