Laek Kaweah is one hour SE of Fresno in the rugged foothills of the Sierra Nevada. High mountains provide an exciting background for fishing and boating at this popular park, located on the main southern route into Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park. - Bass are biting hard with plastic worms ( pumpkin with fluorescent green tail) and rattle baits . I
caught 10 bass between 7-10 am but most of them were on the small side .

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions:
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 44 degrees. If you have a chance to get out on the water, you are going to have to fish deep and slow. Jig fishing and Plastic baits may be your best bet this time of year for largemouth bass. You may also try fishing some sinking jerk baits.

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions:
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.

Lake Kaweah Catfish Fishing

- I used packaged shad, 1/4 ounce wieght and caught four catfish here last night from about 8:30-10pm. biggest was just under 5lb. My truck said it was 49 degrees outside. Pretty windy, but since catfish hunt by smell, the stinky shad worked well. Or maybe I got lucky.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions:
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they aren’t going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

09-22-11. 4pm-7pm. Threw rattle traps for an hour with no results.. Bass seemed to
be feeding on shad... A lot of top water activity but every shad immitation lure I threw
wasn't workin'... So i switched to my go-to bass rig..., plastic worm and a Texas rig...
Caught about a dozen lil' guys and two keepers... The two keepers hit right before
sundown... Ended up being a pretty fun couple of hours at the lake.... Mike

Ran spinners and rattle-traps for bass from about 2PM til around 6PM. Landed half a dozen small bass and hooked into a couple nice ones that shook the hooks before we could boat them. This site said est water temp would be 78 but it was actually 69 degrees.

"Went out on 9-20-10, trolled the center and the N. bank with various lures for a few hours. Only got one bass, 13"", which hit a silver and orange rattle-trap near the bank off a point. Lot of fish jumping, but not much biting."

"useing crank bait ""shad"". the smaller c/b in size and during the time of 0930am. no add ons to the c/b example egg, cheese. on the line aft of the c/b I added five split weights, just enough to tought the line. cranking in slowly and constantly changing my area and away from those pesky talking people who try to talk from shore to shore and boat to shore. v/r: Big AL"

The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
