Deer Creek Lake General Information

Deer Creek Lake was designed and built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Deer Creek Lake project was first authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1938, for the purpose of flood control, recreation, and fish and wildlife enhancement. Dam construction was begun in 1965 and completed in 1968. Deer Creek Lake Dam is a part of the larger comprehensive flood control plan for the Ohio River Basin, a system of dams that reduces flooding on the Scioto and Ohio Rivers by holding back flood water. The estimated monetary savings in flood damages that been prevented downstream of the dam has surpassed the construction cost of the dam. In addition to flood reduction, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers works in cooperation with Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Parks and Division of Wildlife to provide lakeside recreation and fish and wildlife management. Restrooms are located at the Project Office, Dam, ODNR Deer Creek State Park Campground, Harding Cabin Area, Marina, Beach, Picnic Areas, Lodge and Cabins, and the Golf course.

The crescent moon will have better gravitational pull than a gibbous or half moon. However the affects of the moons gravitational will be decreased since the sun and moon aren't pulling in conjunction with one another. Deer Creek Lake Water Temperature
Estimated Current Deer Creek Lake Water Temperature:
52°
What's This
Largemouth Bass
With Deer Creek Lake at 52 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Smallmouth Bass
With Deer Creek Lake at 52 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Smallmouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Smallmouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Spotted Bass
With Deer Creek Lake at 52 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Spotted bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Spottted Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Crappie
The crappie fishing should be getting good to great now. Crappie function excellent in 52 degree water. Crappie will be nicely bunched up still and moving more aggresively than when the water temperature is in the 35 to 50 degree range. With baitfish getting more active, the crappie fishing will be good. Good luck today!

Catfish
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they aren’t going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Deer Creek Lake Current Weather
Temperature: 43

Barometric Pressure: 30.17 (High)
A high barometric pressure system is sitting over the lake. Fish will be heading to deeper water, or they will tuck away in cover. With the pressure high, it will be little more challenging to coax them to bite. Your best bet is to take the opportunity to go for a little larger fish. Don’t fish for quantity; it’s time to go for the trophy. Slow down your lures and presentation and get out in deeper water using your favorite plastics, worms, jigs, and finesse baits. With high barometric pressure on your lake, slow down that deep diving crank bait or grab your jerk bait and pause it a little longer.
