Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions:
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 51 degrees. If you have a chance to get out on the water, you are going to have to fish deep and slow. Jig fishing and Plastic baits may be your best bet this time of year for largemouth bass. You may also try fishing some sinking jerk baits.

As of October, 2012 bass fishing is slow but warming up. Bass seem to be chasing shad & minnows in the open water so its \"run & gun\" time: when you see them blow up on the baitfish fire her up, cut the main about 200-150\' away and use your trolling motor to sneak up on them. Small spinners and crank baits buzzed past them may do the trick. Weedlines in the back of coves and on points have largemouths lurking for an easy meal. Again a spinnerbait or a floating Rapala will entice them out of the lair. On a recent outing a 4 pounder struck my Rapala. I quickly reeled him out about 30 feet from the weeds and as I bent to pick up the landing net he dug into the weeds, tangled the hooks to a brush pile, straightened out the hooks and shouted \"See ya\". He\'s still there, mocking me.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions:
With Clarks Hill Lake at 51 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Smallmouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Smallmouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions:
Crappie should be getting ready to spawn. Stay out in deeper water and look for schools. Schooling shad will be harder to find with this water temperature so when you find it, stay on it. Crappie schools will be breaking up quite a bit getting ready for the spawn. Also try fishing shallower with small crank baits and spinners on the warm banks with direct sunlight. This is a great time to be on the water.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions:
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they aren’t going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Clarks Hill Lake White Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- When Clarks Hill was initially dammed there was (according the lore) a very healthy population of white bass. Schools of fish made for quick-filled stringers and happy fishermen.

This all changed, however, with the introduction of Hybrid bass. Apparently the hybrids and stripers compete for the same food source (minnows and shad) and have displaced the white bass.

I have been fishing Clarks Hill for over 20 years without spotting a single white bass; nor have I ever heard or seen another fisherman catching one in this time frame.

It would be wonderful if fisheries biologists in SC and Georgia apptempted re-introducing the species. I love and miss the suddeness of a school of them appearing and tearing into a small spinner or jig with their scrappy fighting abilities, not to mention their fairness at the dinner table.

"March 11, 2011 CLARK HILL IS DOWN 4.9 FEET, STAINED & 56 DEGREES Bass fishing is fair and the weather stabilizing will really help the action daily. The lake is full to all accounts and may be up a little with all the rain Georgia has experienced over the last couple of weeks. The water temperatures are right for limits of bass this week. With mid to upper 50's being reported all over the lake, anglers are loading their boats one pattern. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits are the primary baits being used in any shade of white in the blades and the no. 7 Shad Rap in the black/silver or natural shad colors in the cranks. The ditches seem to be the most productive place to bag a 20lb. sack of bass but if you aren't familiar with the lake, you will need to break out the old lake map to locate these areas. The ""ditches"" are the old creek beds that were flooded when the lake was formed. Look for the small red lines that run close to the bank on your map and fish these areas well. Start off with a spinner bait early in the morning and switch back and forth with the Shad Rap to cover these areas. Look for and fish all the ditches in and around points as all of these areas will hold bass. Another good bait to throw this week is a lipless crank bait. Throw a Rattlin Rap in the 1/2ounce size on the longer run out points that contain a lot of rocks. Also check out the short rocky banks near the parks and just above the I-20 bridge. These bass are aggressive and a good steady retrieve is all that it will take. Look for signs of blue back herring. This will indicate a prime area to work with the faster baits. “The Southern Fishing Report” By Ken Sturdivant 106 Hickory Ridge 770 889 2654 Cumming, Georgia 30040 http://www.havefunfishing.com/"

Water Temperature: 54
"March 4, 2011 CLARK HILL IS DOWN 5.2 FEET, STAINED & 54 DEGREES Bass fishing is fair and some fish are into a pre spawn pattern. Most bass are being found in ditches or flats with jerk baits and crankbaits in 15 feet of water or less. On the warmer afternoons, you can see bass cruising in the backs of many pockets. We’re certainly not done with all of the cold weather, but spring is now upon us. Here are some things to keep handy as you fish this month: Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerk baits and jigs. The No. 1 bait of choice for me this month is a spinnerbait. If the weather continues to stay moderate to warm, big female bass will cruise the shallows looking for an area that provides cover and food for the spawn. Throw close to and into the thickest cover possible during the warmest days. However, if the temperature stays cool, back off the cover some and try slow rolling around the edges of spawning flats. If the month does stay on the cool side, use your jerk baits and crankbaits that suspend, and fish down the middle of the pockets. As always, the jig ’n pig will produce big bass now, also. Try it on main and secondary points that are near spawning flats. “The Southern Fishing Report” By Ken Sturdivant 106 Hickory Ridge 770 889 2654 Cumming, Georgia 30040 http://www.havefunfishing.com"

Clarks Hill Lake Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
