Toledo Bend Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions:
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at 80 degree water temperature. Bass will start moving much slower and feeding less aggressively until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, it's time to get out fishing early and late in the day when the sun is not on the water. When you can get out for the entire day, it's a great time to fish some deeper water. Many large bass are taken this time of year since bass fishermen typically gets out deeper and fish slower with larger baits. Like any other time of year, the slower you fish with bigger baits on the deep drops and river channels, the better chance you have at a lunker. This is a great time to catch a trophy. Good luck out there today!

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions:
Your lake crappie will be much more lethargic in the water temperature. They will be in deeper and cooler water. Crappie will be feeding; however they will not be feeding aggressively unless the other fishing factors are at prime levels. Find some moving water that is clear and you should find some more aggressive fishing.

Water Temperature: 49
Fishing Report from Covington Guide Service on Toledo Bend Lake in Texas. Water Temp: Main Lake: 49 degrees. Creeks: 49 degrees in the mornings and warms to 53 degrees in the afternoons if we have sunshine. We are still seeing alot of shad dying off and floating to the surface. The water clarity is very stained to muddy in the backs of the creeks. The water temp has dropped 4 to 5 degrees with the passage of this last cold front. This will keep the fish in a holding pattern for now. Warmer weather is coming and we can’t wait but Mother Nature will dictate when those changes will occur. Crappie Report: The bridges are still producing some crappie in this area along with fishing off the docks and piers at night. Some of the brush piles that are built in the middle of the creeks are holding some fish. Shiners and Yellow Jigs are both catching fish depending on the water clarity. Catfish Tips for Current Conditions:
Unlike most North American fish species, blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish are comfortable when the water temperature is this high. They will be feeding and moving in typical patterns. You will start having a little better luck if you can get to some moving water that is adding a little more oxygen for the baitfish and the catfish will be there also.

Water Temperature:
"January 1 Fising Report. January usually means cold weather with numerous fronts passing through. When the water temperature drops to the lower fifties and forties, look for the bait- fish and bass to move into deep water. The easiest way to locate the bass is to locate the bait- fish. Concentrate looking for balls of shad on your LCR in deep creeks, sloughs and along the river channel. When you locate the shad the bass are usually underneath the shad just off the bottom or suspended. If the bass are on the bottom, they will orient themselves close to some type of structure, brush- tops, lay-downs, stumps, ledges, drops or humps. A jig or jigging spoon fished vertically can be very effective in triggering a strike. If the bass are suspended a fluttering spoon or tail spinner cast out and counted down and retrieved with a pumping motion will also trigger a strike. Once the fish have moved into deep water, the strong northern fronts really don't affect them as much as they do when the fish are in shallow water. Remember when fishing cold water, we need to down size our baits and fish extremely slow. Water Temperature:
"Fishing Report Feb 1st by Joe Joslin of Toledo Bend. Milder weather is slowly getting things back to normal but cold water temperatures took a toll on last weekend's Skeeter Boats Bass Champs East Texas Series. Pete Shivers of Kirbyville, TX and Doyle Tibbits of Broaddus, TX captured the first place check of $20,000 with just over 19 pounds of bass. Last year (January 2009) on Big Sam at the same event there were 8 teams catching over 20 pounds and in-the-money cutoff was nearly 16 pounds whereas Saturday about 12.2 pounds got you a check. Cold water temperatures was the major difference. For the rest of Joe Joslin fishing report go to http://www.joejoslinoutdoors.com/fishingrptsam.asp"

Toledo Bend Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
