Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions:
With Hartwell Lake at 51 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Smallmouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Smallmouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions:
Crappie should be getting ready to spawn. Stay out in deeper water and look for schools. Schooling shad will be harder to find with this water temperature so when you find it, stay on it. Crappie schools will be breaking up quite a bit getting ready for the spawn. Also try fishing shallower with small crank baits and spinners on the warm banks with direct sunlight. This is a great time to be on the water.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions:
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they aren’t going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Water Temperature: 55
"March 11, 2011 LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 3.2 FEET & 55 DEGREES Bass fishing is good. This week brought on a few changes in the weather with the cold front that moved in on Sunday night. The good news is the bass did not respond to the front and the shallow water bite is still on. The majority of the bass are still being caught in three feet of water or less and anglers are having good limits at the scales. Most of the boats are heading into the coves and concentrating their efforts on the shallow flats and the boat docks. Shallow running Shad Raps and spinnerbaits seem to be the baits of choice this week. Use the number five Shad Rap in shad colors and the Fat Free Shad are working mid day and later. The back part of the docks is a heavy producer right now along with areas of the bank that hold a good amount of wood. The bass seem to be relating to the wood right now. Soft plastics are not doing well this week so use a slow moving bait on or near bedding areas like a suspending jerk bait. The large buck bass are shallow and aggressive now working the bottom and making large beds. Don't look for a bunch of bites in one area. The pattern is to fish a cove good and then move on. Eastanollee Creek and Sugar Creek is still good places to start this week. “The Southern Fishing Report” By Ken Sturdivant 106 Hickory Ridge 770 889 2654 Cumming, Georgia 30040 http://www.havefunfishing.com/"

"March 4, 2011 LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 4.1 FEET, 49 DEGREES Bass fishing is fair. The bass are ready to move up as soon as the full moon rolls around. Work small crank baits in the pockets on the major creek pockets. Also the docks are ready to break loose as the bass use the shade of boat docks to feed under. Use the shallow diving crank baits in bone and fire tiger like the Rapala DT6 and DT10 in the off colored water in the backs of the major creek arms. Once the sun gets up fish the docks with a jig and a jerk bait. As the water warms up, the Zoom trick worms and a Senko will work. Skip these baits under the docks in the shady areas and then work the shallow sand pockets. As the water warms up, get out the Rat L Traps and the Red Eye Shad crank baits and run and gun the banks. Also have a Zoom Fluke and the Super Fluke ready and watch the feeding periods on the Game and Fish Forecaster to be using the right retrieves. “The Southern Fishing Report” By Ken Sturdivant 106 Hickory Ridge 770 889 2654 Cumming, Georgia 30040 http://www.havefunfishing.com"

Hartwell Lake Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
