The Belton Stillhouse Lake Office is located 1 mile south of US 190 on FM 1670 in Belton, Texas. Belton Lake is located on the Leon River 16.7 miles upstream of the confluence of the Leon River and the Little River. It is in the northern part of Bell County, Texas about three miles north of the City of Belton and approximately eight miles west of the City of Temple, Texas. The Lake area lies within Bell and Coryell Counties. Belton Lake was completed in 1954 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist with flood damage reduction within the Brazos River Basin. Largemouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at 79 degree water temperature. Bass will start moving much slower and feeding less aggressively until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, it's time to get out fishing early and late in the day when the sun is not on the water. When you can get out for the entire day, it's a great time to fish some deeper water. Many large bass are taken this time of year since bass fishermen typically gets out deeper and fish slower with larger baits. Like any other time of year, the slower you fish with bigger baits on the deep drops and river channels, the better chance you have at a lunker. This is a great time to catch a trophy. Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at this water temperature. Bass will typically start moving much slower and feeding less aggressive until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, get out fishing early and late and cast in the shallows. When the sun is up it will be time to get out into deeper water, try fishing some drop offs and deep channel bends.

Your lake crappie will be much more lethargic in the water temperature. They will be in deeper and cooler water. Crappie will be feeding; however they will not be feeding aggressively unless the other fishing factors are at prime levels. Find some moving water that is clear and you should find some more aggressive fishing.

Walleye will be starting to get a little slower in this water temperature. With walleye being a cold water fish, they will start becoming fairly lethargic in this water. With the fish slowing down the fishing will be more difficult to find and coax into biting. However they will be feeding and the walleye bite should still be good. This time of year is a good time to fall back to live bait as standard practice for the best bet at numbers and size of fish.

The entire catfish family is very active and actively feeding in this water temperature. All catfish including blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish will be looking for their next meal. It’s perfect time to get on the water and fill the freezer. Good luck out there.
