With Watts Bar Lake at 53 degree water temperature largemouth bass fishing is getting ready to ramp up. The male bass will start moving up from deep water toward spawning coves and the big ones are right behind them. This is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. The female bass will start feeding at this water temperature in preparation for spawn. The male bass may be up shallow especially on sunny afternoons. Fishing sunny spawning grounds that are receiving the warm spring time sun is a great way to get a few largemouth bass in the boat.

"Caught six 2-3 pound Largemouth in a cove just past lakeside golf course in Kingston. Also caught 3 more the next day under a dock in murky shallow water. They are hitting on watermelon seed lizards, pumpkin chartreuse lizards, chartreuse pepper lizards, and chartreuse pepper plastic worms with a 3 aught hook. Flip it under the dock and reel slowly and give a jerking motion while reeling they hit about every 2-3 casts. Fish it with a Texas Rigged plastic worm or lizard. 3/4 ounce sinker. Also some stripe were seen hitting the shad but none were caught. A lot of Gar also in the area."

The walleye spawn is in full swing now. With Walleye spawning grounds generally on gravel and rocky bottoms and preferring clean water. Try throwing reaction type baits up in the shallows. Rip-Rap, damns, rocky bottom points are perfect to hit. Try fishing some faster crank baits and spinners this time of year. As always fall back to the standard walleye fishing tactics, but it won?t hurt bringing out the bass gear in search for spawning walleyes. In this water temperature, always be safe on the water.

the few bass I caught were slow to bite and seemed little interested. The only solid bite came on a texas rigged worm in 4 ft. of water. The largest was 2 pounds and caught in 3 ft. of water on a crank bait.

water level is still about 1 foot down. bass are still not up shallow yet.caught some small ones on a crank bait

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The full moon is right around the corner. The gravitational pull is starting to increase with the moon and sun being on opposite sides of the planet. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. It's always fun trying something new at the peak times to change things up a bit and test out the Lunar Theory each time you hit the water in close to full and full moon situations. Good luck you there.
