Nickajack Lake Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Me and a buddy went fri. may the 27th and caught 19 largemouth all 19 caught on a 7inch black worm. They ranged from 1 pound to 5 pounds 16 of the 19 were keepers. All of them were caught in less than 5ft of water in heavy cover. We did not do any good off banks that had big rock.
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions:
At 56 degree water temperature largemouth bass fishing is in pre-spawn now. It's time to get fishing. Female bass are going to be moving up to the spawning beds. Male largemouth bass will be starting to build the spawning nests in protected coves. Bass prefer to spawn in weedy and woody cover deep in coves that will be protected from the wind and other elements. This is the best time to catch the lake record bass. The female bass will be feeding until they reach the beds and start the spawn. The smaller male bass will be attacking lures also. It is on like donkey kong!!! Hit the water NOW, we can?t believe you are reading this and not fishing right now. GET OUT!!

Lake Nickajack 15 Sept 2011– Spent the day with a couple great gent’s from Tennessee, putting together a tournament game plan. We fished the lower end from Sullivan’s Landing down. Water temps are in the low to mid 70’s. We caught fish on every stop all day long with lots of good keeper fish in the 1-3 pound range, but no real kicker fish. The vast majority of fish we caught today came from 3-15 FOW mainly on spooks, sammy’s and Assassinator Buzz baits. We also used and caught fish on swim baits and T-rigged worms. I have a few days available in September and I’m taking reservations for October and November! If you’re thinking of a vacation you really need to checkout Hales Bar Marina and Resort on Lake Nickajack. We supply all fishing gear, lures at no additional cost you and 110% dedication to making your trip successful. Make your reservations now for some great action on Guntersville, Nickajack or Tim’s Ford. “Let’s go fish’ in” More photos available on my website www.midsouthbassguide.com Submitted by Capt. Lake Nickajack 2-8 Sept 2011– I had several trips this past week with anglers getting ready for upcoming tournaments. We fished the lower end from Sullivan’s Landing down. Water temps dropped to the low to mid 70’s this past week with the arrival of some much need rain. Everyday, we caught fish on almost every stop with lots of good keeper fish in the 2-3.5 pound range and several in the 4-6 pound range. The vast majority of fish we caught over the past week came from 3-15 FOW mainly on Bass Assassin Tapouts, Tightline Jigs and Assassinator Buzz baits. We focused our attention on road beds and deep grass lines using T-rigs and 1/2oz screw lock football heads. Even thou we are seeing cooler weather, please drink lots of water and use sunscreen even on cloudy days. With the water temperature at 56 degrees smallmouth bass fishing is ready to heat up for spring. The bass will be starting to move into their spawning area. Smallmouth bass will generally spawn on rock and gravel bottoms that are protected from the elements. It's time to get fishing and look for staging bass in deeper water.

- Alot of crappie are being taken near marinas in 10-24 ft of water using minnowes. Also along rip-rap along the banks
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions:
Crappie should be getting ready to spawn. Stay out in deeper water and look for schools. Schooling shad will be harder to find with this water temperature so when you find it, stay on it. Crappie schools will be breaking up quite a bit getting ready for the spawn. Also try fishing shallower with small crank baits and spinners on the warm banks with direct sunlight. This is a great time to be on the water.

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions:
The walleye are coming off of the spawn now. Fish will be feeding very more aggressive making up for lost time eating during the spawn. Walleye will start moving back to their typical structure of choice and should be getting into the lake flats and deep structure. It?s time to hit the water. This may be the best water temperature to be on the water. There shouldn?t be too many fishermen on the water this early and there are many species that are hitting their prime water temperatures to be biting very well. Have fun today!

- The cats are starting to become more active, however are still slow. Best bet is deeper water this time or year, but with temps. increasing it won't be long before they become very active. Using liver with nite crawler will produce some action

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions:
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they aren’t going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Nickajack Lake Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
Full Moon fishing can be at its best. The gravitational pull on the earth is at its peak when the moon and sun are rising and setting at opposite times of the day. This combination can generate extraordinary fishing opportunities especially if combined with perfect weather variances. The full moon may have the fish extremely aggressive and actively hunting for food. Try fishing a little faster today and with several different baits and techniques. When fish are more aggressive, it?s always fun to fish a little more aggressive. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. Full moon days can be great fishing. Good luck today!
