Dale Hollow Lake is well-known for its pristine qualities due to the forested shoreline and the high water quality of the lake. Visitors come to enjoy the lake and its many recreational opportunities: fishing, camping, scuba-diving, boating, and sightseeing. The pristine quality of the lake is important to the Dale Hollow National Fish Hatchery just below the dam, which produces 1.5 million trout annually. Dale Hollow Lake is renowned for water purity as well as fishing. In addition to yielding the world record Smallmouth Bass, Dale Hollow has produced many outstanding catches of other fish. A reciprocal fishing agreement provides for sport fishing licenses from either state to be valid in the Wolf River, including Illwill Creek, beginning at the state line as it crosses the Wolf River at its mouth where it joins the Obey River. - Found some smallies here this weekend 4/27 just after 8:00am. This point was the most productive spot of the day, we caught 9 fish over a 1 hour period. Theres some sunken cover thats about 20 feet off the bank, the bottom is sandy and raises up a bit. The fish we caught were suspended behind the sandy hump in about 18 feet of water, my guess the temp was around 62. The fish are definately deep, its all about temp this time of year. If you can find 62-64 degree water and structure, you will find the fish.

77 degrees in in the largemouth bass prime water temperature range and fishing should be good right now. Baitfish are much more active in this water temperature and the largemouth bass will be feeding aggressively throughout the day. This is a great time of year to be on the water.

Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at this water temperature. Bass will typically start moving much slower and feeding less aggressive until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, get out fishing early and late and cast in the shallows. When the sun is up it will be time to get out into deeper water, try fishing some drop offs and deep channel bends.

Crappie prefer this water temperature and will be actively feeding and staying in solid patterns. Baitfish are more active and schooling in all parts of the lake in this water temperature.

Walleye will be starting to get a little slower in this water temperature. With walleye being a cold water fish, they will start becoming fairly lethargic in this water. With the fish slowing down the fishing will be more difficult to find and coax into biting. However they will be feeding and the walleye bite should still be good. This time of year is a good time to fall back to live bait as standard practice for the best bet at numbers and size of fish.

The entire catfish family is very active and actively feeding in this water temperature. All catfish including blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish will be looking for their next meal. It’s perfect time to get on the water and fill the freezer. Good luck out there.
