- This cove is a hotspot for bass at the time of year. Also kniown as trout cove this cove is a perfect plce to cast your bait out and make a slower reel because there is a lot of weeds there they will be hesitant ot come out of the weeds. Be careful when you come in though there are many other fish that are there and they will spook the bass if you disturb them. There is also good fishing for other common species.

- This is a good spot for catfish as well as other species but the real fish that bites here is crappie and other panfish. Try anchored and just a worm all the way down or make a drift from one end of the island to the other. Also try drifting or anchored in the channel behind it.

- This channel really is a good spot for the above average catfish that are in this lake. Since that clarity isn't that good you really need to get something that they can smell. Try just drifting in the channel or in frot of the island but once you get out there it is mostly large panfish.

Alewives are up and the stripers are starting to hit. I kept getting too excited when the striper would bite tonight. Check out right by the 528 bridge for some striper action. Bring your cast net and cast net permit and fill your bucket with alewives. I plant to post more info here everytime I go fishing. There is good catfishing in the area and pretty soon they will be up. Try some homemade dough bait. Chicken livers are your friend with a size 1 hook. It keeps the bait on better. Dough bait for cold weather chicken livers for warmer weather. Bass are biting too take a bucket of shiners or minnows. Shiners work best or a black jitterbug fishing lure. The fishing is good now. So get out and fish. There are some large musky and pike and there is carp below the dam that are huge over on the North Shore McDaniels launch area. Handicap accessable areas are common so if you are a person with a disability then you should visit the lake as there are accessable fishing piers stop by the park office for more information. The park office is off of the South Shore exit on 422. Great picnic areas and definitly a great spot for a family vacation that can be inexpensive and fun. Really though I were you I would make this your number one fishing destination in Pennsylvania. It is a great local secret it is the third largest state park in PA but it is usually empty. No idea why but you can find isolated spots for fishing even when it is busy may take a little bit of looking but they are there.

yes question on cast nets,you can get a permit from pa fish comm,it is 10.00 and would only be good for lake arthur. they sell only permits for a few different waters and thats all,the limit of shad or alewives is 100,the net can be no larger than a 10 foot radius,and a 20 foot dia,hope this helps ,see it took a long toime for anyone to answer ???

Fished Lake Arthur this past Saturday (8/4). Landed a nice striper on a piece of shrimp around 10:00am and then another on a worm around 7:00pm. They\'re in there, but only seem to be active in the mornings and evenings. Catfish and crapie were hitting on worms all day though.

Went out to the flats by the dam stripers are jumping for alewifes!! Caught 5 in the 8 pound range and missed another 3 at the dam on a black/blue/silver bucktail. All but 3 were caught at hte flats using a Rapala X-rap, the main color for that particular bait was Glass Ghost. Good Luck Fishing!!

They are hitting in Muddy Creek off of brightly colored jerk baits. The colors that are producing the most are Sexy shad, Chart.,and Orange.

This lake BLOWS my buddy and I fished from 7pm until 2am and never seen any action.We used an array of lures practically everything in our tackle boxes, and we were floating and sinking shiners at the same time.We covered the lake from old 422 launch to the dam following all the road beds and nothing Nothing I say....Oh well I guess we will go to pymatuning tomorrow and try for some Eyes. good luck suckers.

fished 17th and 18th all day fished muddy creek ,528 bridge area,island off of old 422 launch at point.trout cove ,did best in trout cove and near the propogation area cables,caught a 26" channel cat on a crank bait for crappie in trout cove,caught one small crappie near propagation area,and bluegill there also some fat ones nice.water was 56* in morn and by 7:00 pm at prop area was 64*thats getting warm.not really satisfied with catch on both days ,have done a lot better earlier in march.

Fished 4-16 for 2 1/2 hours. Water was 51 when I started, ended up 56 by the end of my tour. Tried a few coves, and only got one small bass. Worked a point and landed an average one, and hooked a nice one that tossed the lure during the fight. Each one was on rubber. Didn't have enough time to really try much else.

We decided to try out this lake before heading back to Pgh. We were at the boat launch by bear creek campground and caught a few sunfish. A few minutes later I landed an 8lb 25 inch stripped bass. Water depth was only about 3 feet.

"Date: 3/18/2011. Got our for a few hours in the early evening. Windy to start, so stuck to the guarded shorelines...no success. Checked the big part of the lake on the way out an lots of fish on the finder, but no time to attack them. Docks at the launches aren't in yet as the water level is about 8-10"" high."

stripers are off the big hit now... you can still get catch them but bite isnt like it was 3 weeks ago. been hooking them through the tail (behind the dorsal fin and in front of the tail fin in the middle) above the lateral line so they dont bleed to death. just got to keep and eye on them. the good thing is that they are lively and kicking for a long time but the bad is that they go everywhere....so just keep and eye on your lines. best of luck -jr

"Out last night shore fishing at the 528 boat launch. Started out fishing with some blue gills whit their fins trimed, had some nice hits and lost something big. around midnight switched to alewives and caught one small striper and a few bull heads. I would have thought with the clear skys, big moon, warm water temps, and calm water that the fishing would have been better. How are you all riging your alewives for shore fishing?"

almost anywhere is good for cats but i would target the shoals and points. net some alewifes be sure to have a permit or just dont get caught. caught some nice cats over twenty inches this year fishing for stripers. any more questions just post ill try to check daily

"went out last thurs. baitfish are out from about 11-330. caught 3 2ft cats and brought home two more stripers over 2 ft. heading back out tonight. seems to be a lot of people fishing the shoal by the damn, dont know how well they are doing, will report on activity of tonight tomorrow -jr"

monday night was ok baitfish were up at about 1130 died off early when the w8ind picked up. missed a few stripers and caught some big cats. brought home two stripers over 2 ft. - jr

"lake still isnt in full swing yet. went out last thursday and baitfish were out in full force, if you could find where they were. one 24 inch striper and a couple of small ones. cats are hitting strong too. you have to find the baitfish to find the fish in the lake"

Another update by me. Stripers are up tonight. I was there for about an hour as I was with my GF and she caught about 4 stripers in a short time. I got skunked though. I think it had something to do with me working on my car I think the transmission fluid caused me problems even with a shower. We used the exact same bait and rigging and they would not bite for me at all. For her they kept biting. The point is go fishing now as the bite is on. If you don't see this until Thursday night go then as it is starting to get into full swing.
