Cochiti Lake is located in Sandoval County, New Mexico and within the boundaries of the Pueblo de Cochiti Nation on the Rio Grande about 50 miles upstream from Albuquerque. Cochiti Dam is one of the four Corps of Engineers projects for flood and sediment control on the Rio Grande, operating in conjunction with Abiquiu, Galisteo and Jemez Canyon Dams. Cochiti Lake offers two public recreation areas for your enjoyment; the Cochiti Recreation Area on the west side of the lake and the Tetilla Peak Recreation on the east side. Each recreation area has a boat ramp for launching vessels. A visitor center is open to the public near the Park Headquarters. Scenic overlooks are on both sides of the lake. 76 degrees in in the largemouth bass prime water temperature range and fishing should be good right now. Baitfish are much more active in this water temperature and the largemouth bass will be feeding aggressively throughout the day. This is a great time of year to be on the water.

Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at this water temperature. Bass will typically start moving much slower and feeding less aggressive until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, get out fishing early and late and cast in the shallows. When the sun is up it will be time to get out into deeper water, try fishing some drop offs and deep channel bends.

Crappie prefer this water temperature and will be actively feeding and staying in solid patterns. Baitfish are more active and schooling in all parts of the lake in this water temperature.
