This is a small lake compared to Shasta.  It also is deceptivly cold all year.  Temps at Shasta will get into the high 70s to low 80s most years but Whiskey town will not barley get to 75. The west end of the lake near the powerhouse will stay in the low to mid 60s.  Now 7-8-10 Shasta is approx 75 dgree average so whiskeytown is likely to only be high 60s, but again the closer you get to the powerhouse the colder the water will get all year.

The lake is not known for good fishing however there are plenty to catch.  many people say the cold areas by the powerhouse are good trout areas and the rest is o.k. for bass.  The good fishing in thisarea is at Shasta lake and at 365 miles of shore (yes 365 miles when full) there is lots of good places and many different species from bass to trout, salmon to sturgen.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is in full spawn now the water temperature has climbed up to 65 degrees. The large female bass will be on the beds and holding tight. Spawning bass won't be feeding aggressively at this water temperature but they will be catchable. In addition, all bass don't spawn at the exact same time or water temperature. If you aren't a site fisherman, you should be able to find some larger females and male largemouth on the standard spring patterns. Female bass will really start to slow down on feeding so fishing is going to be slower for a few weeks until they move into active patterns again.
