Higgins Lake Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- There are NO largemouth bass in Higgins Lake. I've been fishing Higgins Lake since the mid 1960's and have never seen one. Higgins is a place for dandy smallmouth bass, they very underfished. Most anglers fish for perch and rockbass or trout. Pike are also plentiful, jigging large minnows or using rapalas on the edges of weed beds should net you a few pike. Don't waste your time fishing for largemouth...they don't exist here.
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 40 degrees. If you have a chance to get out on the water, you are going to have to fish deep and slow. Jig fishing and Plastic baits may be your best bet this time of year for largemouth bass. You may also try fishing some sinking jerk baits.

Higgins Lake Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Best way to catch is to us a worm, hook, and a weight. Cast out let it sink a
little then reel it very slow. If you don\'t catch one within 5 min move 20 yards
away. The marked place is where I have caught the biggest Smallmouth Bass in the
20 years I have fished this lake

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 40 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.

Higgins Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- I won't say with certainty there are no crappie...but I've never seen one in 45 years.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.

Higgins Lake Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Walleye, like largemouth, do not exist in Higgins Lake. Obviously the person giving the tips has never fished this lake and is using some computer program to write his material. Lake trout, rainbow trout, brown trout, splake, whitefish, northern pike, salmon, perch, rockbass, smallmouth bass, grayling, a few bluegill....those are what you can catch at Higgins. The occaisional sucker or dogfish can also be caught. There are some huge rockbass in the lake, up to 14 inches...maybe the other author is just confused?
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Walleye function very well in the colder water temperatures. Try fishing some open flats and definitely use live bait when the water temperature is this low. Plastics with scent added will also produce results, but nothing beats live bait for walleye.

Higgins Lake Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- There is no catfish in higgins lake ben fishing higgins for 30 years now never caught or seen a cat caught.
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Higgins Lake Spotted Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- anywhere 25+ depth all around the lake they like weeds and structure so go to a nice vegetation bed and just drop it in. live bait(minnows worms and small frogs or large insects) works well and fake worms do all right. i always go toward teh north sunken island or around Treasure Island.

Spotted Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Higgins Lake at 40 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Spotted bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Spottted Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Higgins Lake Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The crescent moon will have better gravitational pull than a gibbous or half moon. However the affects of the moons gravitational will be decreased since the sun and moon aren't pulling in conjunction with one another. It's time to pay close attention to the other fishing factors in the weather to make the best decision for hitting the water.
