Fishing is great at Lake Ray Roberts! Recently, rain in the watershed has pushed the lake level to about a foot over normal level. Therefore, there is a small release of water from the lake. Water temperature has fallen to the 60s and all species of fishing is good. Thanks to a very successful spawn this year, I believe we have more fish and baitfish than we have had in many years. We should have excellent fishing for the next few years, barring any unusual events by Mother Nature. White Bass are plentiful and can be caught on slabs jigged on the bottom on points and humps in 20 to 40 feet of water. Crappie fishing is good for the first time in a while. They are being caught on minnows and jigs on the Corps of Engineers brush piles in 15-30 feet of water. You can also catch them in standing timber in the same depth water. Not only is the number of Crappie good, the average size is better than it has been in years. Largemouth Bass are cooperating! They are being caught on a variety of lures fished along the shore in 2-6 feet of water. Good numbers are coming from the main lake as well as in the creeks. Crank baits and spinnerbaits fished in shallow water are a couple of the most productive choices this time of year. Having been a full time fishing guide on the lake for 26 years, I can say that the overall fishing is better than it has been in several years! I have been running trotlines the past few months and something has changed. The catfish are definitely moving to deeper waters. The water is down and it\'s getting hot, and then come the gar and carp. I have been catching plenty of blue cats and only a couple of channel cat.

"Jan 1st 2010 Fishing Report. Another year is upon us. Waiting for this cold weather to get out of here. Spring will be here before we know it. I haven't been on the lake much the past few weeks with the holidays and our vacation. Just got back from a cruise with family and friends. We had a great time. It will be interesting this spring to see what kind of weights are brought in to the scales, now that there are tournaments on the lake again. Last fall folks struggled to find the fish. I expect to see some big bags brought in this spring. It wouldn't suprise me to see a share lunker brought in as well this spring. Water temperature is 42 to 43 degrees and stained in most areas of the lake. White bass fishing is slow on Lake Ray Roberts. It takes a lot of looking to get a bite with most of the lake below 43 degrees. The snow predicted tomorrow will only make for colder water temperatures. Ray Roberts sand bass are hard to catch when water temperature gets below 43 degrees. For the rest of reelin Ray Roberts Fishing report go to http://www.reelinrayroberts.com/fishingreport.html"

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at 79 degree water temperature. Bass will start moving much slower and feeding less aggressively until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, it's time to get out fishing early and late in the day when the sun is not on the water. When you can get out for the entire day, it's a great time to fish some deeper water. Many large bass are taken this time of year since bass fishermen typically gets out deeper and fish slower with larger baits. Like any other time of year, the slower you fish with bigger baits on the deep drops and river channels, the better chance you have at a lunker. This is a great time to catch a trophy. Good luck out there today!

Your lake crappie will be much more lethargic in the water temperature. They will be in deeper and cooler water. Crappie will be feeding; however they will not be feeding aggressively unless the other fishing factors are at prime levels. Find some moving water that is clear and you should find some more aggressive fishing.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be a new moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
