Lake Whitney Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- 2/18/12
4.5lb bass caught in the rain 10-15ft on brush piles with jigs. Took around 15lb on the local tournament today also. Budlight tomorrow goods luck! My estimate is that it will take 18lbs plus to take FIRST and 15lb might get a check! Going to be a good day to fish.
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is in full spawn now the water temperature has climbed up to 63 degrees. The large female bass will be on the beds and holding tight. Spawning bass won't be feeding aggressively at this water temperature but they will be catchable. In addition, all bass don't spawn at the exact same time or water temperature. If you aren't a site fisherman, you should be able to find some larger females and male largemouth on the standard spring patterns. Female bass will really start to slow down on feeding so fishing is going to be slower for a few weeks until they move into active patterns again.

Lake Whitney Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- The lake has a very very low chance of producing a smallmouth bass. Reason being they restock the lake at the wrong time period like when the stripers are crusing shallows?! Makes since plus they are scared of the "Golden Alge". Wish they would get over it and restock the smallmouth everyear so Lake Whitney can become a great smallmouth lake in the future like it was many years ago. They have been caught but in extreamly few numbers over the last few years. Be nice if the restocking group would get together and make the lake more than a small time striper lake.
Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The smallmouth bass spawn is in full swing now. Fishing will become slower but won't turn off completely. If you are fishing for female bass go with plastics and really slow your presentation and stay around the spawning beds. You should be able to find some larger females and male bass on the standard spring patterns. Female bass will really start to slow down on feeding and the fishing is going to be slower for a few weeks until they move into active patterns again. Hit the water NOW, we can?t believe you are reading this and not fishing right now. GET OUT!!

Lake Whitney Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Crappie is a little slow right now due to the recent cold weather, still caught several with a
Crappie pole vertical fishing with live minnows, fishing should heat back up when the water temp
gets back to 68 or 70. Good luck out there.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The crappie spawn should be really heating up now. Crappie prefers to spawn on gravel bottom typically with brush and/or emergent vegetation for cover. If the lake is void of gravel bottoms, find the rocks or rip rap. Crappie will use the larger structure rocks for cover. Cast some small grub baits in the shallows looking for the spawning crappie. Good luck today!

- Six channel cat caught at the marina on live and cutbait yesterday here in Whitney
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The water temperature is climbing and the catfish will start becoming more active now. The catfish spawn is right around the corner and generally all catfish species will be looking to spawn. Blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish spawn in much the same areas. Mostly spawning in deep tree lay downs that have lots of shade, holes in the bank, sunken barrels and tires. With baitfish becoming active, it?s time to catch some small sunfish, bluegill, shad and frogs and getting the line in the water.

Lake Whitney White Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Sandbass in full swing heading up the creeks especialy on the sunny warmer days. This is early for the lake but it also just came up in the neighborhood of 8ft. so with that and few good days of warm weather and the started. Slowed a bit for the cool front but just wait for a few warm days ahead. Lures Always flyrods, small jerkbaits "rebel" hint cheap and work, tiny rattle traps, small popper, and crappie style jig and baits that imitate small baitfish work also. crankbaits can work but when the water gets realy clear they tend to shy from them in the river.

Found a few stripers up shallow today busting on the top and bringing them in on just about anything you can get infront of there faces quickly. Last three days caught from 3-7lb stripers this way, calmer days make it easier to spot them pop the top.

Lake Whitney Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The full moon is right around the corner. The gravitational pull is starting to increase with the moon and sun being on opposite sides of the planet. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. It's always fun trying something new at the peak times to change things up a bit and test out the Lunar Theory each time you hit the water in close to full and full moon situations. Good luck you there.
