It was pretty hot yesterday on the lake. We took the boat out and caught around 50 stripe. They were small though. We were running out of night crawlers (after breaking them in small pieces) so my dad threw his line over with nothing on the hook and jokingly said, “I bet they’d bite a bare hook”… and they did!!! We also caught a small catfish and a good size crappie. We had an excellent day of fishing!

Caught 2 channel cat, a lot of stripe, and some blue gill. Had a few slow moments, stayed busy baiting hook. But over all it was a good day of fishing! There were a lot of boats out on the lake today as well.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Woods Reservoir at 40 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Woods Reservoir Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 40 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.
Woods Reservoir Crappie Rating:

Woods Reservoir Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Crappie also like small meal worms or pieces of nightcrawlers and esp. black crickets as far as live bait.I\'ve bought white crickets at the local stores near Woods Reservoir in Tennessee but their so small I couldn\'t even keep them on the hook.Black Crickets are the best live bait or cut up night crawlers.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.
Woods Reservoir Walleye Rating:

Woods Reservoir Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Walleye function very well in the colder water temperatures. Try fishing some open flats and definitely use live bait when the water temperature is this low. Plastics with scent added will also produce results, but nothing beats live bait for walleye.

Woods Reservoir Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Use chicken livers
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they aren’t going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

New Moon fishing can be at its best. The gravitational pull on the earth is at its peak when the moon and sun are rising and setting at the same time of day. This combination can generate extraordinary fishing opportunities especially if combined with perfect weather variances. The new moon may have the fish extremely aggressive and actively hunting for food. Try fishing a little faster today and with several different baits and techniques. When fish are more aggressive, its always fun to fish a little more aggressive. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today?s solar/lunar peaks. Have a great day!
