Species: Smallmouth Bass
Fishing Rating: 5
Water Temperature: 68
The unusually warm weather that we are experiencing here at Dale Hollow have the fish in a full spring pattern much earlier than normal. A lot of people who plan their vacations each year to coincide with the smallmouth spawn at Dale Hollow will likely be diasappointed to find it over with by the time they arrive. Anglers should expect patterns to be three to four weeks earlier than normal this year. Fish have already moved shallow into spawning areass and are being caught on a number of lures including jerk baits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, swim baits, and live minnows.

- Found some smallies here this weekend 4/27 just after 8:00am. This point was the most productive spot of the day, we caught 9 fish over a 1 hour period. Theres some sunken cover thats about 20 feet off the bank, the bottom is sandy and raises up a bit. The fish we caught were suspended behind the sandy hump in about 18 feet of water, my guess the temp was around 62. The fish are definately deep, its all about temp this time of year. If you can find 62-64 degree water and structure, you will find the fish.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Dale Hollow Lake at 51 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the water temperature at 51 degrees smallmouth bass fishing is ready to heat up for spring. The bass will be starting to move into their spawning area. Smallmouth bass will generally spawn on rock and gravel bottoms that are protected from the elements. It's time to get fishing and look for staging bass in deeper water.

- Fish around fallen trees in the water live bait works best but lures will do ok.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie should be getting ready to spawn. Stay out in deeper water and look for schools. Schooling shad will be harder to find with this water temperature so when you find it, stay on it. Crappie schools will be breaking up quite a bit getting ready for the spawn. Also try fishing shallower with small crank baits and spinners on the warm banks with direct sunlight. This is a great time to be on the water.

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The walleye spawn is in full swing now. With Walleye spawning grounds generally on gravel and rocky bottoms and preferring clean water. Try throwing reaction type baits up in the shallows. Rip-Rap, damns, rocky bottom points are perfect to hit. Try fishing some faster crank baits and spinners this time of year. As always fall back to the standard walleye fishing tactics, but it won?t hurt bringing out the bass gear in search for spawning walleyes. In this water temperature, always be safe on the water.
Dale Hollow Lake Catfish Rating:

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Spotted Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Spotted bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature down this low. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a Spotted.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

New Moon fishing can be at its best. The gravitational pull on the earth is at its peak when the moon and sun are rising and setting at the same time of day. This combination can generate extraordinary fishing opportunities especially if combined with perfect weather variances. The new moon may have the fish extremely aggressive and actively hunting for food. Try fishing a little faster today and with several different baits and techniques. When fish are more aggressive, its always fun to fish a little more aggressive. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today?s solar/lunar peaks. Have a great day!
