Best fishing this time of year as not man fishermen are out. Today was overcast with 5 mph winds out of the east. Got out on Lake Moultrie at 8am and immediately ran into schooling stripers with about 500 gulls, pelicans and loons on top of the fish. Caught 25 nice ones really fast on sassy shads and bucktails.

The point off of Sommerset and the West Dike are HOT! Just look for the seagulls. Throwing swimming shads and spoons. If you find the school...the action should be hot all day. Good luck.

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at 80 degree water temperature. Bass will start moving much slower and feeding less aggressively until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, it's time to get out fishing early and late in the day when the sun is not on the water. When you can get out for the entire day, it's a great time to fish some deeper water. Many large bass are taken this time of year since bass fishermen typically gets out deeper and fish slower with larger baits. Like any other time of year, the slower you fish with bigger baits on the deep drops and river channels, the better chance you have at a lunker. This is a great time to catch a trophy. Good luck out there today!

Lake Moultrie Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- the best way rite now to catch pan fish with the water temp being this cold is to fishing close to deep structures with jigs or a little peice of shrimp or green worms let it down a bit and reel it up a foot from the bottom
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Your lake crappie will be much more lethargic in the water temperature. They will be in deeper and cooler water. Crappie will be feeding; however they will not be feeding aggressively unless the other fishing factors are at prime levels. Find some moving water that is clear and you should find some more aggressive fishing.

- Out in front of the Navy MWR "Short Stay" Camping Area in the channel was very hot this weekend for the
Blue Cats. I caught a 40 lb., 3 1/2 footer out of my kayak using large shiner (trying to catch stripers) in
about 45-50 foot deep waters. Flipped the kayak trying to get it in the cooler :) I ran into a group of guys
at the filet station with 8-10 large blue cats as well. They are moving slow - but seem to be active.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Unlike most North American fish species, blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish are comfortable when the water temperature is this high. They will be feeding and moving in typical patterns. You will start having a little better luck if you can get to some moving water that is adding a little more oxygen for the baitfish and the catfish will be there also.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be a new moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
