Knappys outdoor adventures has hit struble lake the last 2 years. Each year it was fished twice mid and during the fall. First I have to say we\'ve fished the lake many times years ago. Back in the 70\'s most of the anglers fished the lake for walleyes. It seemed during the winter on the hard water a lot of walleyes were taken. But nearly all were stunted fish. Top fish taken were just at legal with 90 percent being around 10 inches. During this time period jigs or minnow rigs were the norm. Now back to the present. After checking shocking reports made by the game commission. The size of the fish have shown considerate increase. So it was time to return to fish the lake and see how we would make out. although we havent fished at night yet I would suspect low light conditions would give up more walleyes than during the day. The Knapp crew has been fishing walleyes in canada waters for nearly 50 years along with The bay of Quinte and the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. These waters give up some giant fish but genetics and water size followed by seasonal movements are totally different than smaller lakes and rivers. Walleyes like structure that along with there main feeding habits in low light conditions. Or a good walleye chop on the water surface can give up some eyes. If you would like to try fishing for these fish get your depth finder out and look for brakes in contour. Example a 6 foot flat brakes to 10 foot in a very short distance. These tops of the 6 foot brake would be a first contact point that walleyes are coming into the shallows to feed. Many times while fishing canada we would concentrate that 6 to 10 foot brake to first make contact. trolling lures that run shallow on the 6 foot side of the boat and run deeper diving lures on the 10 foot brake until fish are located. Then we stop and cast or jig that area until numbers of fish are taken. As the sun goes down the fish come up to that 6 foot brake and scatter into the shallows. Thats when we usually throw lures right up to the banks. Keep in mind that if the winds have been coming from a constant direction the bait fish will be in the shallows on that wind ward bank. Rapelas in the size of # 9 to #13 our a favorite. The fire tiger works as does a blue with a orange belly or black and gold. Finnicky fish go small active hitting fish go bigger. My self I do all these but Love jigging the wobble jig with different colored grubs or a grub and a minnow. Match your bait with what swims in the lake. Hey we caught alot of perch there so that fire tiger looks like one. Ok now to the other species. On our trips there the salty spider or the wacky worm was a big catcher of largemouths. With the sun heating up the rocks on the dam area. Casting right into the rocks and dragging the bait slowly off bottonto the deeper water. Had bass picking up the offering and running off. I use a slugo hooked weedless crawling it threw the rocks to the deep. This has given up at least 40 lbs of bass in just one trip on the lake. Crappies were easy to catch. using 1/64th oz to 1/8th oz jigs and grubs or minnows drifted just off bottom in a wind controlled drift with the trolling motor. On one occasion we caught around 50 crappie during a 2 1/2 hours period with this approach. When it comes to yellow perch most are mixed with crappies but many were taken with the small jig in and around the weeds by the bank. Go to any search engine and go to knappys outdoor adventures there we have are successes from local lakes. fell free to check it out and contact me any time for info on what biting and where.

Struble Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.

Walleye function very well in the colder water temperatures. Try fishing some open flats and definitely use live bait when the water temperature is this low. Plastics with scent added will also produce results, but nothing beats live bait for walleye.

The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Struble Lake Solar and Lunar Conditions
Current Lunar Fishing Tip:
The full moon is right around the corner. The gravitational pull is starting to increase with the moon and sun being on opposite sides of the planet. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. It's always fun trying something new at the peak times to change things up a bit and test out the Lunar Theory each time you hit the water in close to full and full moon situations. Good luck you there.
