Water Temperature:
Just returned from the lake after camping on the 18th and 19th weekend. Fishing from the shore in super shallow water using green powerbait i caught three of the biggest fattest rainbows I have ever caught. At around 2 pounds each they were as fat as can be and around 16 to 18 inch average. It was strange since the water is already pretty warm, but the stormy weather may have brought the into the shallows. It was very fun.

Howard Prairie Lake Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Howard Prairie Lake at 55 degree water temperature largemouth bass fishing is getting ready to ramp up. The male bass will start moving up from deep water toward spawning coves and the big ones are right behind them. This is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. The female bass will start feeding at this water temperature in preparation for spawn. The male bass may be up shallow especially on sunny afternoons. Fishing sunny spawning grounds that are receiving the warm spring time sun is a great way to get a few largemouth bass in the boat.

Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the water temperature at 55 degrees smallmouth bass fishing is ready to heat up for spring. The bass will be starting to move into their spawning area. Smallmouth bass will generally spawn on rock and gravel bottoms that are protected from the elements. It's time to get fishing and look for staging bass in deeper water.
Howard Prairie Lake Crappie Rating:
2.9
Howard Prairie Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- When Crappie are out of season the best thing is to find a rocky area and drop live or plastic bait in front of (or into if you\'re not afraid of snags) with little to no weight. They may or may not take the bait, although they will certainly investigate.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie should be getting ready to spawn. Stay out in deeper water and look for schools. Schooling shad will be harder to find with this water temperature so when you find it, stay on it. Crappie schools will be breaking up quite a bit getting ready for the spawn. Also try fishing shallower with small crank baits and spinners on the warm banks with direct sunlight. This is a great time to be on the water.
Howard Prairie Lake Walleye Rating:
2.5
Howard Prairie Lake Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The walleye are coming off of the spawn now. Fish will be feeding very more aggressive making up for lost time eating during the spawn. Walleye will start moving back to their typical structure of choice and should be getting into the lake flats and deep structure. It?s time to hit the water. This may be the best water temperature to be on the water. There shouldn?t be too many fishermen on the water this early and there are many species that are hitting their prime water temperatures to be biting very well. Have fun today!
Howard Prairie Lake Catfish Rating:
3.3
Howard Prairie Lake Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Catfish are best found in deep water scouring the bottem for food. They prefer bait that is alive and kicking, so the best strategy is to cast or drop your line as far into the lake as possible. Depending on the type of catfish, the lake conditions, and weather conditions, they may prefer a dark night over a bright day.
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Spotted Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Howard Prairie Lake at 55 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Spotted bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Spottted Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The full moon is right around the corner. The gravitational pull is starting to increase with the moon and sun being on opposite sides of the planet. Watch the peak fishing times and make sure you are on the water during that part of the day to take full advantage of today's solar/lunar peaks. It's always fun trying something new at the peak times to change things up a bit and test out the Lunar Theory each time you hit the water in close to full and full moon situations. Good luck you there.
