Lake Chatuge fishing was slow today. We used Storm Blue Chrome Orange, Livingston Real Chad, Pumpkin Seed Worms. We even tried our luck at trolling. Went from one end of the lake to the other. Saw plenty of fish on the fish-finder however they weren\'t interested in whatever you presented. Could the \"spots\" have started there spawn.?
Chatuge Lake Largemouth Bass Rating:
3.5
Chatuge Lake Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Water temp is actually between 55 and 57, make sure your
presentation is large and slow. They are looking got a ready
meal without expending to much energy.
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With Chatuge Lake at 49 degree water temperature this is a great time to get out on the water and try hitting some deeper primary and secondary points. Largemouth bass will be feeding at this water temperature but will be much harder to catch. On Sunny warm afternoons its a great time to throw a crank bait, jigs or slow roll a spinnerbait at 5-10 foot on sunny points and drops off of sunny flats. Largemouth Bass will move into warm water on warm sunny days.
Chatuge Lake Smallmouth Bass Rating:
2.5
Chatuge Lake Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- we don\'t have many. you\'ll just have to look in my opinion.
Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 49 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.
Chatuge Lake Crappie Rating:
3
Chatuge Lake Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the Water Temperature at 49 Prime Crappie fishing is in full swing. Crappies should be migrating to their spawning areas now. They?ll either be up in the final spawning area now or at tributary entrances. Concentrate around 15 feet of water. Fish Primary points at the mouth of the creek arms. Fish Targets at this point instead of focusing on bait fish. Fish trees, shrubs, vegetation, etc. Fishing correctly this time of year will get you snagged quite a bit since you need to focus on making and keeping contact with the cover.
Chatuge Lake Walleye Rating:
2.5
Chatuge Lake Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The walleye spawn is in full swing now. With Walleye spawning grounds generally on gravel and rocky bottoms and preferring clean water. Try throwing reaction type baits up in the shallows. Rip-Rap, damns, rocky bottom points are perfect to hit. Try fishing some faster crank baits and spinners this time of year. As always fall back to the standard walleye fishing tactics, but it won?t hurt bringing out the bass gear in search for spawning walleyes. In this water temperature, always be safe on the water.
Chatuge Lake Catfish Rating:
4
Chatuge Lake Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- a lot of blue channel cat fish around dam or in channels feed by colder water
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The crescent moon will have better gravitational pull than a gibbous or half moon. However the affects of the moons gravitational will be decreased since the sun and moon aren't pulling in conjunction with one another. It's time to pay close attention to the other fishing factors in the weather to make the best decision for hitting the water.
