Elkhead Reservoir Largemouth Bass Rating:

Elkhead Reservoir Largemouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Try fishing some pre spawn locations for largemouth bass. With water temperature at 39 find some flats with soft bottom at locations on Elkhead Reservoir that typically have vegetation during summer months. Try fishing spinner baits and work them slow up to the edge of the drop and bounce them down the face looking for staging largemouth bass. Jerkbaits and squarebill crankbaits can also deadly this time of year. Look for flats in the arms of the lake that have direct access to deep water and river channels.

Elkhead Reservoir Smallmouth Bass Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Smallmouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Smallmouth bass fishing is going to be slow with the water temperature at 39 degrees. It's time to fish deep and slow. Try some deep primary points, drop offs, and old river channels with rocks. Jigs, plastics and deep jerk baits will be your best bet to boat a smallmouth.
Elkhead Reservoir Crappie Rating:

Elkhead Reservoir Crappie Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- Crappe mostly disappeared after the dam was rebuilt. DOW had chosen not to restock. There are still a few crappie, maybe in 30 years Elkhead will become what it used to be.
Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Crappie fishing is sometimes at its best with the water temperature down this low. Crappie will be in large schools and follow the large shad schools around in extremely deep water. Find the deepest parts of your lake in old river channels and scan your graph for schooling shad. When you find the school, drop your plastics or live bait down to the bottom of the shad and get ready. Many crappie fishermen will be catching awesome numbers and size of fish this time of year. If you are brave enough to get out on the water this time when the water temperature is this cold, it can really pay off. Be careful out there, remember to boat safely. Never take any chances at these temperatures.
Elkhead Reservoir Walleye Rating:

Elkhead Reservoir Walleye Tips: [ Add Tip ]
- nice to know there are walleye in elkhesd reservoir!! My tip would be to release all walleye so that the population will expand to a population that can tolerate selective harvesting. So the state stocked them? they don\'t do much right but this is a good thing! While im at it...take all the state money you waste on killing pike, smallmouths and whatever else...fish as indigenous as; rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout and create a fishery that will create revenue for the state. the elimination of smallmouths on the lower Yampa, after it had become a world class destination fishery is an example of the ineptitude and ignorance of the people in charge of our resources. The fact that no one can acknowledge that humans are at the top of the food chain, reveals the very ignorance that is behind the decisions being made.It is easier to drink coffee at the local diner than it is to make a decision that may or may not be controversial.Job security is more important than making decisions that may actually benefit humans and wildlife alike. So keep those walleye spawning!1

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Walleye function very well in the colder water temperatures. Try fishing some open flats and definitely use live bait when the water temperature is this low. Plastics with scent added will also produce results, but nothing beats live bait for walleye.
Elkhead Reservoir Catfish Rating:
1
Elkhead Reservoir Catfish Tips: [ Add Tip ]
Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
The catfish family comprises of blue catfish, flathead catfish and channel catfish. Since catfish are warm water fish, they arenít going to be very active in this water temperature. They will still be feeding, but catfish will only be found very deep and feeding very slowly. Your best bet is give some of the more active fish species in your lake a shot until the cats are active again.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The crescent moon will have better gravitational pull than a gibbous or half moon. However the affects of the moons gravitational will be decreased since the sun and moon aren't pulling in conjunction with one another. It's time to pay close attention to the other fishing factors in the weather to make the best decision for hitting the water.
