Smith Lake February 8th, 2012 After spending yesterday back on Smith lake, I am pretty beat. I've been getting up at three in the morning for over a week and mentally hit a wall yesterday. While out on the water, I ran into a couple guys that had fish with me a couple months ago. My brain was like swiss cheese, it took a minute for my brain to recall them. I felt like a mental patient on thorazine. Sorry Mike for being so slow, I remember you. You caught your biggest fish last. The blue boat and the distance through me off, plus I was beat by the time I saw you. As for the fishing, the striped bass bite was better then in days past. I found fish in several places, I fished in Coon Creek, Pigeon Roost, and the main channel close to Misty Harbor. They still a little scattered, but their getting tighter. With several sunny days in the forecast, things should only get better. We also did some bass fishing, while it was slower then a couple days ago and the bite was a little deeper. We still caught plenty of fish in 6-15 feet of water. Also picked up a nice spot on a Jr. Lunker Punker in bone color. Its a big top water bait and this spot ate it up. The water is settling down and they have pulled around 4 feet of water out of the lake over the past week or so. That's changed we're the fish are positioning. I am looking forward to the next couple days on the water. by Mike Walker of Fishing 24-7 Guide Service

Largemouth Bass Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Largemouth bass fishing is going to be pretty slow at 83 degree water temperature. Bass will start moving much slower and feeding less aggressively until the water temperature starts to get back down to comfortable levels. When the water temperature is up this high, it's time to get out fishing early and late in the day when the sun is not on the water. When you can get out for the entire day, it's a great time to fish some deeper water. Many large bass are taken this time of year since bass fishermen typically gets out deeper and fish slower with larger baits. Like any other time of year, the slower you fish with bigger baits on the deep drops and river channels, the better chance you have at a lunker. This is a great time to catch a trophy. Good luck out there today!

Crappie Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Your lake crappie will be much more lethargic in the water temperature. They will be in deeper and cooler water. Crappie will be feeding; however they will not be feeding aggressively unless the other fishing factors are at prime levels. Find some moving water that is clear and you should find some more aggressive fishing.

Walleye Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
With the water temperatures up this high, the walleye will really be moving slow and feeding even slower. It will be extremely difficult to stay on fish and catch good numbers. There will be good days that you can find a good pattern and fill the live well up. The good days of walleye fishing will be fewer and farther between until the water temperature gets back down. Good luck.

Catfish Tips for Current Conditions (automated):
Unlike most North American fish species, blue catfish, flathead and channel catfish are comfortable when the water temperature is this high. They will be feeding and moving in typical patterns. You will start having a little better luck if you can get to some moving water that is adding a little more oxygen for the baitfish and the catfish will be there also.

Current Lunar Fishing Tip:

The affects of the moon on freshwater fish and game are at a minimum right now. There will be another full moon coming up here in a few days. The fisherman should never use this as an excuse to not get on the water. The affects of the moon can only enhance the outcome of a day's fishing not decrease potential catch for today. On days without the new or full moon, all other factors including weather, barometric pressure, wind and cloud cover will make up today's equation for success.
